Kenya & Golf

Kenya has about 40 golf courses – more than any other African country except South Africa. And the balmy climate of Kenya could have been made specifically for the game.

In fact Kenya has all the right ingredients to rival the Mediterranean as a winter golf destination.

The history of golf in Kenya goes back a long way, with one club in Nairobi celebrating its centenary in 2006. Locally, the game is thriving as never before. Young and gifted players are starting to compete internationally at the highest levels.

But it is comparatively recently that Kenya as a nation has woken up to the fact that its magnificent golfing inheritance, is in fact a valuable commodity that can and should be marketed overseas.

What’s more, several of the country’s top courses have been refurbished or upgraded in recent times.

For lovers of the game Kenya offers:

  • Uncrowded and well maintained golf courses.
  • Comparatively inexpensive green fees and associated playing costs.
  • A perfect climate all year round (including Europe’s winter months).
  • Hotel accommodation of high standards at reasonable prices.
  • Frequent flights to Nairobi from Europe, the Middle East and the Far East.
  • Many excellent courses in and around Nairobi, at 1,700 meters above sea level but even more within two hours drive.
  • Friendly and knowledgeable caddies

When you play golf in Kenya, you are bound to be pleasantly surprised by the various features of nature on the different golf courses. From sykes monkeys to indigenous forests and flowers. From vervet monkeys to palm trees, the occasional dik dik and warthog. Most importantly, the friendliness of the Kenyan people, a common thing within the 50 or so cultural backgrounds that make up the population of Kenya.
